Equipment

  • 1 bamboo whisk (chasen)
  • 1 tea bowl (chawan)
  • 1 milk frother
  • 1 small sifter

Ingredients

  • tsp matcha powder
  • ¼ cup water 80°C (175°F)
  • ¾ cup milk
  • sweetener eg. maple syrup, sugar, honey, agave nectar.

Instructions

  • Begin by sifting the matcha powder into your tea bowl or mug to ensure a smooth texture and remove any clumps.
  • Heat water to around 80°C (175°F) and pour it into the tea bowl or mug.
  • Using the bamboo whisk, gently whisk the matcha powder into the water using a back-and-forth motion (W or M shape) until it's fully incorporated and frothy.
  • If you like it sweet, add your preferred sweetener (eg. maple syrup, sugar) to the matcha mixture and stir until dissolved.
  • Heat and froth your milk, and pour it over the matcha in the bowl or mug, allowing the creamy milk to blend with the matcha.
